E-Initiative for Virtual Inspections
TMEIC India's precision motor factory innovates to develop FAT virtual inspections.
TMEIC's precision motor factory in India launched virtual Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) inspections to continue manufacturing and testing of motors to support customers. To adjust to the COVID-19 environment, the factory redesigned workspaces and shifts to keep employees safe and continue production. After meeting these conditions, management turned to another issue: offering witnessed FATs to customers.
The factory institutionalized remote and virtual motor inspections to fulfil customer needs, contributing to maintaining productivity, quality, and contract requirements, while also meeting stay-at-home mandates. This initiative enabled our Customers to witness the Factory Test for their motors without traveling to the Tumakuru plant.
The Remote-FAT uses Microsoft Teams Application as the digital platform to offer remote inspection. A Smart Phone with a 42MP Camera, Handheld Gimbal with wireless headphone, and TAB serves as the digital video streaming device.
The Remote Final Acceptance Test's scope is Motor Inspection for Mechanical Dimensions, Paint DFT & Visual Inspection & Motor Performance Testing, and Interaction with Customer. The procedure identifies:
1. Document readiness
2. Minimum number of persons required for testing,
3. List of Test items to be witnessed
4. Test demonstration setup
5. Data explanation
6. Drawing confirmation
7. Recording the entire test in a Microsoft Teams Meeting
8. MOM preparation
9. Safety points during the tests
The factory has successfully executed Remote FAT Witness with several customers. The Remote Inspection procedure has also been implemented with our Suppliers for inspection of components.
